I’m a worldwide known cyber security expert from Belgium. I'm a board member of two security industry organizations, EICAR and LSEC, and independent Security Evangelist at WAVCi, my own company. I am also the current Chief Operating Officer Software (COO) of the Clean Software Alliance (CSA). I studied Computer Science at IHB and VUB and started working as a Systems Analyst in 1984. In 1989, I was introduced to the early cyber security industry due to an incident with the very first ransomware, the AIDS information trojan. I still own the last remaining physical copy worldwide. Since 1989, I am Belgian’s internationally most quoted cyber security expert. I became a founding member of EICAR, one of the world’s first IT security organizations, in 1991. I have been working for nearly 4 decades as cyber security expert for several security companies like G DATA, Kaspersky and Westcon. In 2013, I published my first book in Belgium and the Netherlands, titled ‘Cybergevaar’ (Lannoo). In 2015 an updated version, ‘Cybergefahr’ (Springer), was published in German-speaking countries. An updated and expanded English edition, ‘Cyberdanger’ (Springer), was launched in 2019 worldwide. In 2020 together with co-author Alain Dierckx I published my first SF Cyberthriller 'Het Virus' (Lannoo). The English version 'The Virus' is coming in 2025. I am a known inspiring speaker and I give lectures (including TEDx) and presentations worldwide for a very diverse audience from children to experts. I have given lectures and keynotes in 40 countries and 5 continents around the world.
